Police Check
In most states it is required by law that if you are working with children you will need a police check or "Working with Children Check" (WWCC). We strongly recommend that you have at least one of these checks as most parents will ask for one. It is a good idea to have one that is up to date.
You can either get a Federal or State Police Check. An easy way to get a Federal police checks is to visit www.mypolicecheck.com.au where you can get one for a fee of $158.50.

New South Wales
To get a NSW police check download the Application for National Criminal History Record Check (Standard Disclosure), then make an appointment with your local police station to organise a time to submit the completed form and pay a $52 fee.

A "Working with Children Check" is only required if you work for an organisation such as an agency. If you are working independently in private homes you are not required to have one.

Victoria
To get a Victorian police check visit www.police.vic.gov.au and download the online application form. Fill it in and then mail it along with the small fee of $30.70 to Victoria Police. Please check www.police.vic.gov.au for the current fees and latest application form.
Victoria is currently instituting a "Working with Children Check". More information about "Working with Children Check" can be found at www.justice.vic.gov.au
Queensland
Queensland police criminal history checks can be applied for at any Queensland police station. Costs $43.35. More information about Queensland police checks can be found by visiting www.police.qld.gov.au.
Depending on the circumstances a blue card may be required if you are working with children. Circumstances such as the number or regularity of visits. More information and a blue card application form can be found at www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au
ACT
Currently there are no legal requirements for people working with children to undertake a police check in ACT.

Western Australia
A Working with Children Check is required for Western Australia. Applications can be made at authorised Australia Post outlets for $50.

Tasmania
Currently there are no legal requirements for people working with children to undertake a police check in Tasmania.
